Obstetrics Q & A

What is obstetrics?

Obstetrics is medical care during pregnancy. At Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology, the experienced team provides exemplary obstetrics care at every stage of your pregnancy, tailored for your needs and wishes.

What does obstetrics care include?

Obstetrics care includes comprehensive medical care to help you have a successful pregnancy. This includes:

Pre-pregnancy care

Your obstetrics care at Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology can start before you’re pregnant. The team helps you plan the right time to conceive, removes your intrauterine device (IUD) or discontinues other birth control, and provides personalized counseling on preparing for pregnancy.

The team also provides infertility evaluations and treatments like intrauterine insemination (IUI) for women who struggle to conceive a baby.

Pregnancy care

Your obstetrics care continues throughout pregnancy. You’ll typically have ultrasounds, blood tests, urine tests, and other types of testing to check on your and your baby’s health and development at various points throughout your pregnancy.

Your pregnancy care can also include special tests you need or want, based on your risk factors and concerns. These optional tests include screenings for genetic disorders and diagnostic tests like chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis.

You’ll learn about pregnancy-specific nutrition, exercise, nutritional supplements, what to avoid, and everything else you need to know during pregnancy.

The team customizes your pregnancy care in every way. They’re experienced in high-risk pregnancy care and can support you even if you face challenges during your pregnancy.

Delivery

During your pregnancy, you’ll work with the Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology team to plan your delivery. They can help you determine whether vaginal, Caesarean section, or vaginal birth after Caesarean (VBAC) birth is the safest and best way to deliver your baby.

You can opt for a medicated or natural birth. The team understands that things can change as your pregnancy progresses, so they can help you adjust your birth plan anytime if needed.

The team of caring OB/GYNs has decades of experience in nurturing successful pregnancies and supporting healthy births.

In addition, Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of the very few practices in the state to have delivered multiple generations of babies within the same families, so you can trust them for everything you and your baby need.

Can I make my own choices about my obstetrics care?

It’s your pregnancy, and Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology empowers you to make your own choices. They share your goal of a healthy pregnancy with a healthy baby, so they guide and support you in the ways that help you achieve that goal.

Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology provides the skilled care you deserve from your first pregnancy test to holding your baby in your arms. Call the office nearest to you or book your obstetrics appointment online today.
