ObstetricianObstetricians are there for an exciting time in women’s lives

Obstetrician provides a very special type of medical care to women in Atlanta and Alpharetta, GA. These physicians have the pleasure of being a part of one of life’s most exciting and life changing events. Having a baby. Below, we’ll cover more of what they do to assist you through each stage of pregnancy.

The early stages

Discovering you’re pregnant or suspecting you are can be very exciting. Once your pregnancy has been confirmed by a test at the doctor or from the store, you will need to contact an obstetrician. Throughout your pregnancy they will be there to make sure you and the baby are as healthy as possible. In your initial call to your obstetrician, they’ll ask some probing questions before setting up your first appointment.

Your first appointment will start with your obstetrician taking your vitals, just like a traditional doctor’s visit would. They will also probably take urine and blood samples as well as perform a pelvic exam and Pap Smear. They may also do a vaginal ultrasound and work to figure out how far along you are and when your baby will be due.

The middle part

For the duration of your pregnancy, you’ll need to visit your obstetrician regular, typically once a month. During these visits they’ll check your health, and the health of the baby. They will perform any necessary tests such as a glucose test to check for gestational diabetes as well as tests to confirm the health of the baby.  After a few months, they can even tell you the sex of your baby.

The home stretch

During your last month or so, you’ll start to see your obstetrician more frequently, such as every week. During these final visits, your obstetrician will continue to monitor you and the baby’s health. They’ll also discuss your birth plan with you and ensure the baby doesn’t go too long or get too big before delivery.

Delivery time

Your obstetrician will be there to deliver your baby. Whether you need a C-section or have the baby vaginally, your physician is trained to deliver it. Having the doctor, you’ve seen throughout your entire pregnancy can help make this hectic and stressful time a little less so.
